Swedish Roots, European Vision
By combining our Swedish heritage with innovation based customer needs, we have developed into a company with a wide range of products for both small forest owners and professional users. Källefall celebrated its 30 year anniversary in 2023. But the story of Källefall originates from the late 1700’s, at a farm in Sweden near lake Vättern, with a copper hammer by the name of Källefall.
For generations, the von Essen family who lived there worked the farm and took care of the forest. In 1993 they decided to start their own forest machine company and called it Källefall, from the name of the estate.
In the 30+ years that has passed since the start in 1993, Källefall has grown from local markets in Sweden to the whole of Europe. From just 4 trailer models to more than 20 today, with skilled and keen employees working close together to provide the best suited equipment for you, all across Europe, independent of what conditions or preferences you have.
From Tradition to Innovation: The FTG Källefall Story
It all started with a copper hammer
A copper hammer named Källefall
The story of Källefall began on a farm of the same name not far from Tidaholm in Västergötland. The farm has a history dating back to the late 18th century, with a copper hammer that used the farm’s water power to operate. The copper hammer was named Källefall.
From 1864, the farm was owned and run by the von Essen family, the family that founded the town of Tidaholm.
The start of the Källefall company
A new brand is born
Ingrid, who lives on the Källefall farm, decided together with her husband Anders to start their own business in the forestry machinery sector together with their friend Kjell. In 1993, the company Källefalls Maskin was founded. The company name came from the farm and the first logo featured an owl from the von Essen family coat of arms.
Designed their own products
Anders became CEO and product designer. Kjell took on the role of purchasing manager and Ingrid worked with marketing and sales. They all shared an office. Källefall soon became known for its frame control, even though it was a fairly small forestry trailer, and the winch was located inside the pillar, well protected. All products were robust. The radio-controlled winch was also very popular for safety reasons.
Successful relations with manufacturer in Lithuania
The newly established company soon realised that they needed to manufacture their products in a country with lower costs in order to compete with more established brands such as Moheda and Mowi.
Through the Swedish Embassy in Lithuania, they came into contact with Dr. Vygintas Geležiūnas, father of FTG Baltics’ current CEO, Egle Rakstiene. They got along well and began working together. Dr. Vygintas organised the manufacture of steel components that were sent to Tidaholm for assembly.
Over the next few years, the business grew rapidly, with sales through Lantmännen in Sweden, but also exports to countries such as Norway, Denmark, Germany and Austria.
In 2000, Källefall merged with the MowiMoheda Group. In 2001, Anders Thunström passed away unexpectedly. In 2005, the group of companies with the three brands Källefall, Mowi and Moheda was renamed FTG (Forest Technology Group).
