Tonight we celebrate the Lithuanian Midsummer

Lithuanian Midsummer—known as Joninės (St. John’s Day) or Rasos (Dew Holiday)—is a magical summer solstice celebration filled with bonfires, flower wreaths, and folklore.

In Lithuania, Midsummer is celebrated on the night of June 23rd into June 24th, and it’s known as Joninės (St. John’s Day) or Rasos (Dew Holiday). Rooted in ancient Baltic traditions, it marks the shortest night and the peak of summer. People gather outdoors to light bonfires, sing traditional songs, and decorate themselves with flower wreaths.

According to folklore, the night is filled with magic: herbs gain healing powers, and finding the mythical fern flower is said to bring luck and insight. Water also plays an important role. At sunrise, it is believed that washing your face in dew or bathing in lakes brings health and vitality. Today, Midsummer blends old customs with modern celebrations – festivals, music, and time spent with friends and family under the bright Nordic sky.

Joninės is a national public holiday and tomorrow Wednesday 24th the office is closed.
